This course offers a systematic reading of the Holy Rosary in Ecclesiastical Latin, designed for students with prior training in Latin grammar.
Building on the foundations acquired in Latin I and Latin II (or equivalent experience), the course focuses on close reading and full linguistic comprehension of the Rosary prayers. Each text is examined in its historical development, liturgical function, and syntactic structure, allowing students to understand the prayers as carefully constructed Latin texts within the Christian tradition.
Throughout the course, students will read and analyze the complete Rosary: Signum Crucis, Glōria Patri, Avē Marīa, Pater Noster, the Mysteries, Salve Rēgīna, the final prayer, and the Symbolum Apostolōrum.
In addition to the standard printed texts, the course includes selected manuscript witnesses of the Rosary, used to illustrate the historical transmission, textual development, and stability of the prayers from the Middle Ages onward.
By the end of the course, students will be able to read and analyze the complete Rosary in Latin, with a clear understanding of its grammar, vocabulary, and historical context.

This course does not teach basic Latin from scratch, but consolidates and deepens existing knowledge through sustained engagement with authentic ecclesiastical texts.
