Frequently Asked Questions

Who are these courses for?

Our courses are designed for serious students of all levels — from complete beginners to advanced readers of classical and medieval Latin.

They are ideal for:

  • Independent adult learners

  • Homeschoolers

  • History, theology and philosophy students

  • Writers and classicists

  • Anyone seeking rigorous, structured formation in Latin

No prior knowledge is required for Latin I.

How are the courses structured?

Each course combines:

  • Structured video lessons (Scholae)

  • Progressive, commented readings (Lectiōnēs)

  • Systematic grammar reviews (Recēnsiōnēs)

  • Quizzes and exercises (Pēnsa)

  • Cheat sheets and review materials (Tabulae)

  • Curated links and research tools (Vincula)

  • Optional live sessions (availability depends on the term)

The program is designed to provide serious, university-level depth in a carefully structured and accessible online format.

Is this a self-paced course or are there live lessons?

The membership provides access to both formats:

  • You may progress entirely at your own rhythm through the self-paced recorded lessons and submit your questions in the Forum, where they are addressed directly by the instructor.

  • You may also attend the weekly live classes, with new courses introduced each term. These sessions allow you to interact directly with the instructor, meet fellow students, and resolve questions in real time.

  • Additionally, you have access to the weekly Latin Grammar Workshop, dedicated to working through exercises and addressing questions directly with the instructor (please consult the academic calendar for specific details).

The Premium Membership additionally includes one private 1-on-1 live session per month for particularly motivated students or those with specific academic needs.

How long does it take to complete a course?

A typical course (e.g., Latin I or Latin II) can be completed in:

  • Approximately 3–4 months at an intensive pace, which corresponds to the duration of a standard live academic term.

  • 5–6 months at a moderate pace, which is generally recommended in order to avoid burnout and allow for steady consolidation.

That said, each student progresses at a different rhythm. The study of Latin is not a race but a discipline — and, ultimately, a lifelong journey.

Do I receive a certificate after completing a course?

Yes.

Depending on the course, you will be required to complete exercises after each lesson (pēnsa) and submit a final assignment at the end of the course.

Students who successfully complete the required coursework and whose final assignment is evaluated positively by the instructor may request a certificate of completion.

Please note that our certificates are not formally accredited and do not confer university credit. They attest to the successful completion of the course and reflect the high academic standards upheld by Learn Latin.

How do I access the courses?

Once you have registered and selected a membership plan (Monthly, Annual, or Premium), the process is as follows:

  • Access our online course catalog.

  • Enroll in any available course by clicking the “Enroll” button located on the right-hand side of the course page.

  • Once enrolled, you may begin from the first lesson or navigate directly to any lesson of your choice via the Program tab.

  • In the Program tab, you will find the Zoom links for live classes, typically published one week prior to each scheduled session.

Do you offer a free trial?

At this time, we do not offer free trials.

Comprehensive course descriptions and preview materials are provided so that prospective students may evaluate the program carefully before enrolling.

Is there a minimum commitment?

No. Memberships are billed monthly, and you may cancel at any time before your next billing date.

However, we recommend the annual plan for serious students who seek continuity in their studies and wish to benefit from the equivalent of two months free (approximately 17% savings).

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept major credit and debit cards. All payments are securely processed and encrypted via Stripe

Do you offer refunds?

Due to the nature of digital courses and the immediate access granted upon enrollment, we do not offer refunds. However, you may cancel your membership at any time to avoid future charges.

If you experience a technical issue or billing error, please contact us at contact@learnlatin.io and we will gladly assist.
