Learn Latin is an independent cultural academy and online educational platform dedicated to the rigorous teaching of Latin and the humanistic disciplines of the classical tradition.
Our mission is simple: to provide serious, university-level formation at a fraction of the traditional cost, without compromising academic depth or intellectual integrity. We combine premium instructional materials, carefully structured courses, and a polished digital environment to offer a learning experience that is both demanding and accessible.
Our vision is rooted in the preservation and transmission of the Western tradition, from the Greco-Roman foundations to the Christian Middle Ages and the Renaissance. We firmly believe that Western civilization is deeply rooted in the past, and that it is the responsibility of its heirs to understand it, cherish it, and ensure its continuity.
Learn Latin is a private, fully self-funded educational platform sustained entirely through student memberships and course enrollments. This independence grants us complete freedom in designing our courses and shaping our academic programs, enabling us to offer a carefully curated catalog guided by a single principle: the integral classical formation of our students from linguistic, historical, philological, and philosophical perspectives.

Salvē. I am Magister Iacobus, founder and director of Learn Latin. More importantly, I am your Latin instructor: the voice you hear in the video lessons is mine. I have over eleven years of teaching experience, working with students ranging from complete beginners to advanced readers of classical and medieval texts.
I hold a PhD in Medieval Philosophy from the University of Cologne, with a focus on Latin philosophical and theological texts. I also completed a postgraduate specialization in Medieval Studies at the Pontifical Antonianum University in Rome, where I worked extensively with manuscripts and primary sources.
Prior to that, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Classics as well as a Master’s degree in Logic and Philosophy of Science from the University of Florence. I also spent a year studying Latin and Ancient Greek at the prestigious Accademia Vivarium Novum in Rome.
I look forward to getting to know you during our live classes, answering your questions, and supporting your progress in any way I can — my experience is at your disposal.
