Latin Foundations: The Next Step in Your Journey

This online course continues your introduction to the Latin language and Ancient Roman culture, guiding you from basic familiarity to confident reading. Designed as the natural progression after Beginner’s Latin, it picks up where the first course left off—beginning with Chapter IX of Familia Rōmāna by Hans H. Ørberg—and assumes knowledge of Chapters I–VIII as taught in the earlier course.

Latin Foundations offers the perfect balance of clarity and depth for learners who have mastered the essentials and are ready to explore more advanced structures. It includes everything you need to deepen your understanding of Latin grammar and gain fluency in reading Latin texts:

Each lesson presents visual, intuitive breakdowns of increasingly complex Latin structures. You’ll explore how Latin expresses action, narration, and description—laying the groundwork for intermediate-level reading.

Like its predecessor, the course follows the structure of Familia Rōmāna, which remains an essential companion for reading practice. While the course functions as a standalone learning resource, we strongly recommend using your own copy of Familia Rōmāna alongside the Exercitia Latīna workbook and, for further support, the Companion to Familia Romana.

📅 Live Course Schedule (September–December 2025)

The Latin Foundations course is currently offered in a live format, with weekly 90-minute lessons held every Wednesday at 18:00 Rome time (CET / 12:00 PM Eastern / 9:00 AM Pacific). The course runs from September 3rd to mid-December, with a total of 14 sessions over four months.
